Luminar 2018 by Skylum
This is new photo editing software that seems to hinge on the RAW image recording method which uses a series of sliders to effect each aspect of the image to which they refer. Many photographers have produced quite outstanding final images and are very happy with their work.
As usual the basic RAW correction sliders are like any other fairly simple adjustment method and will depend on the skills of the operator and bearing in mind that these adjustments to the final resulting image will often jointly reflect the influence of several primary settings e.g. Temperature, Tint, Exposure, Contrast, Highlights, Shadows, Whites, Blacks, Clarity, Vibrance and Saturation with Clarity often pulling the overall image together and adding punch.
Luminar 2018 also uses series of additional ‘filters’ which together with the well known raw setup above offer a chance to have further control over the final image with additional sliders each within the the effect to give a further chance to produce that ideal image before printing. These filters offer the photographer alternative sliders to be used in a similar manner to ‘fine tune’ the image further together with a valuable record of the ongoing work at the bottom of the screen so that the photographer can choose which image seems best.
Whilst many of ‘filter titles’ seem self explanatory and their use will confirm your understanding and you will see that this list includes the basic RAW list shewn above but not in any order. The recent upgrade has now grouped these filters aimed at helping the user to minimise the length of any search from this quite long list.
The price of this software at present is £64.00 and the owner may currently download the programme on to a maximum of 5 computers. There is also a 14 day free “Suck it and see” option which will die promptly so there should be ample time for the ‘keen punter’ to evaluate LUMINAR 2018 without risking hard earned cash!
