A night with Shades of Gray.
An unusual experience, well for a photography club at least. A local band called "Shades of Gray" popped in to our club on one of our practical nights to practice their set and allowed our club members to photograph them in full gig mode.
The band arrived and set up as they would for any of their regular gigs, this gave some members a unique opportunity to capture them setting up and warming up ready for the show later.
Then it was lights out, camera, action! The band ran through their regular set of songs, while the 40 or so club members practised their photography skills in full gig conditions, dark except for spot and flashing lights, oh, and of course a fog machine for an extra challenge to keep us on our toes.
Club members were granted an all access pass to join the performers on the stage to get unique and up close shots of them in action. The more experienced photographers amongst us offering advice on which settings were most appropriate to get the best image and how to compose the shot for a unique angle to the less experienced members.
Shades of Gray are an established five piece band playing rock and pop covers from the 60's to the 90's. They cover bands such as Pink Floyd, Golden Earring, Steppenwolf, Thin Lizzy, The Stranglers, The Kinks, Rolling Stones, Status Quo, Queen, Bryan Adams and many more!
Club members thoroughly enjoyed the night and experience, so much so the band have been booked again for show two next year! Hopefully we can put into practice some of the skills we've learnt in between to improve our efforts.
